In a conversation we once had with farmers in peri-urban Bangalore, they told us, “Earlier we used to use only cow dung and locally available biomass earlier, there were worms and insects in the soil. That gave the soil vitamins. Now we use these chemicals and there is nothing left in our soil, no shakti. If there are no worms, then how will the soil have any shakti?”
