Soap Nuts also sometimes referred to as Washing Nuts or Ritha / Reetha /Aritha (in Hindi) or Anthwaal (Kannada). They are actually the fruits of the soap nut tree and contain ‘Saponin’, which is a 100% natural alternative to chemical laundry detergent and cleansers. When in contact with water, it creates mild suds, which is similar to soap.
Soapnuts are highly-effective and gentle at the same time. It will leave your laundry fresh and clean and compared to other detergents, its mildness will keep colours bright, maintaining fabric structure of your clothes for longer periods. It can be used on all fabrics and at all temperatures. It is a 100% substitute to normal detergents.
Soap nuts are allergy-free and hence are good for your skin especially good for babies, eczema and sensitive skin. This chemical free product is excellent for washing children’s clothing. Soapnuts are Hypoallergenic. They are naturally antibacterial and antifungal and very gentle on the skin.
Soap nuts are both Ecological and Economical when compared to other forms of detergents. Soap nuts can be used for cleaning basically anything, from washing clothes, as a liquid soap, cleaning and shining ornaments, household cleaner, shampoo etc. See recipes here.
No difference in the contents, only in the packaging. The bag is made out of waste fabric and also acts as your soap nut dispenser. It is made by an NGO.
This pouch holds your nuts. You fill this pouch with the required nuts and then put into your washing machine or bucket. (Make sure you tie this pouch tightly so that no soapnuts escape into the drum of your machine).
Of course you can! There is nothing stopping you... but you should know a few facts. In India soap nuts are mainly of two kinds.
The South Indian variety contains about 2-4% saponin whereas what Daily Dump is procuring and packing is the Himalayan variety (Sapindus mukorossi) that produces the most consistent quality of 10-14% saponin and is therefore more suited for laundry/washing.
The South Indian variety is more suited for medicinal purposes.
There is a visible difference in their washing ability. Also even if one were to use the South Indian variety (thinking it would be more economical), the cost would actually be much higher since the amount needed per wash is more.
