Using the daily dump products you can begin composting at home.

Begin with knowing what you throw and changing what you throw - you will then reduce the waste that reaches the streets.

The compost you create, will make the earth smile!

Know your waste | before / after buying

Biodegradable waste - or organic waste, can be broken down by living organisms like bacteria and fungi

Non-Biodegradable waste - material that cannot be broken down by living organisms

Hazardous waste - materials that contain toxic substances
Segregation & Collection | daily

Segregating your waste is one of the most important parts of the process. It also makes composting a lot easier on a daily basis since it soon becomes a way of life for all of us who practice it. Segregation is nothing but knowing your waste and making sure that you keep organic/biodegradable waste separate from other waste.
Dumping | daily

1. Dump organic waste into the top unit.

2. Cover with equal quantity of dried leaves / shredded paper / sawdust.

3. Close lid.

4. Once top unit is full, interchange with empty middle unit and continue.
Looking after | once a week

Composting is a process and although you don't need to completely immerse yourself in the activity, you need to keep some time to monitor what is happening to your waste.

1. Stir once in 3 days
Stirring is essential because composting happens in the presence of oxygen. A static pile smells.

2. Check for water content
The pile should not be too dry, nor too wet! (Arrey! life is all about balance is it not?!) When you turn the pile, it should glisten with dampness - this indicates appropriate water content. Add water if needed.

3. Keep healthy
All compost heaps, generate maggots. Add two tablespoons of neem cake powder three days after you begin composting and every 7 days thereafter. Spray lemon grass solution to keep away flies in the pile and around the pots. Add 3 tablespoons of red chili powder to all three units once a week and 3 tablespoons of baking soda to all three units once a week. The red chilli powder is for controlling the maggot population and the baking soda is to control the acidity of the pile.

4. Speed it up
Every 7 days add 2 teaspoon of an organic "culture" (we call it 'accelerator'). this hastens decomposition. Daily Dump sells one kind of culture. Cow dung or semi-composted material are also good accelerators..

Harvest and celebrate | after 60-90 days

Hooray !! All that patience pays off after a while when you get to see that compost and use it to nourish your garden or whatever use you may have for it. You have saved the environment of being dumped with waste from your home and have become a Daily Dump hero ! :)
