Yes, our research shows us the most urban Indians don’t really know about composting. Its like most urban Indians don’t know what happens to the shit when you pull the flush.

Those who do know about traditional pit composting, have limited space therefore
cannot do it in the city.

Those who have space for pits in the city, complain about rats and the problem of access and maintenance. Heavy rains create a mess at pits too.

Urban Indians who do know something about composting are convinced that it’s a cumbersome, smelly, painful job. Better done by the government or the municipal workers.

What they don’t know is, that if managed well, there are no problems like pests and smell and disease. They don't realise that once you harvest a bit of compost, you get hooked, its like therapy and feeling of fulfillment.
